雞寶,原名雞黃,對(duì)于"雞寶”并沒有學(xué)術(shù)上明確的解釋，有的說法是指雞的膽囊結(jié)石,別名雞寶，是家雞干燥的膽結(jié)石。雞黃完整者多呈卵形,質(zhì)輕，表面金黃至黃褐色,細(xì)膩而有光澤,屬于動(dòng)物內(nèi)臟基因突變的結(jié)果,一般長在腹腔。
中醫(yī)學(xué)認(rèn)為雞寶氣清香，味微苦而后甜 ，性涼。歸胃經(jīng)、心經(jīng)、脾經(jīng)、膀胱經(jīng)。內(nèi)服治陽瘺、早泄遺精、月經(jīng)不調(diào)、高熱神志昏迷、癲狂、小兒驚風(fēng)、抽搐、食道癌、胃病、反胃等癥，外用治咽喉腫痛、口瘡癰腫、疔瘡、療毒癥、尿毒癥等,是多種良藥的重要原料。
