光緒二十九年(1903)六月，建立四川銅元局，其規(guī)模不大，僅就原購(gòu)鑄小制錢的廢機(jī)修整使用.廠房是機(jī)器局的壓銅廠和舊的銅錢廠，鑄料是機(jī)器局的槍彈廢殼邊渣和寶川局余銅，圯煉凈盡。按銅96%、鉛0.1%及其他的比例配鑄“當(dāng)五”、“當(dāng)十”銅元。所鑄銅元悉用紫銅,量較好。軍政府接受了四川成都造幣廠，決議鑄造“四川銅幣”以應(yīng)急。民國(guó)元年（1912年）4月，四川成都造幣廠奉四川軍政府之命，開(kāi)模鑄造“軍政府造四川銅幣”，軍政府造四川銅幣應(yīng)運(yùn)而生。
