淳化元寶于北宋太宗淳化元年(公元990年)開(kāi)始鑄造,相傳錢(qián)文為宋太宗趙光義手書(shū),即所謂的“御書(shū)體”。錢(qián)面順時(shí)針旋讀,錢(qián)背一般為光背,但在1988年村,我國(guó)發(fā)現(xiàn)了錢(qián)背為佛像的特殊“淳化元寶”。淳化元寶發(fā)行的時(shí)候,正值北宋逐步穩(wěn)定,國(guó)力走強(qiáng)之時(shí),淳化元寶因此比較稀少,宋太宗淳化初年,太宗深感江山不穩(wěn),尤其當(dāng)時(shí)宋與遼金沙灘大敗。他親自督工鑄造該錢(qián)幣并送至五臺(tái)山窖藏,希望保佑大宋國(guó)泰民安,帝業(yè)萬(wàn)代不斷。

此枚錢(qián)幣直徑:2.4cm。錢(qián)幣外圓內(nèi)方,左右各鑄有佛像。錢(qián)幣正面刻書(shū)“淳化元寶”四字,筆法雋永流連,十分灑脫。錢(qián)背造像的解說(shuō)向來(lái)多有紛紜,坐像多認(rèn)系觀音,立像則有善財(cái)童子及韋馱等說(shuō)。錢(qián)幣背面佛像神態(tài)逼真,栩栩如生。右邊為手持蓮花,坐于蓮花寶座之上的觀音菩薩,寶座底下祥云纏繞。左邊為頭上結(jié)發(fā),雙手合十,身體微向右側(cè)站立,在蓮花瓣座上的善財(cái)童子,當(dāng)為一幅童子拜觀童的畫(huà)面。淳化元寶背面所鑄的兩尊佛像,均有蓮花寶座和祥云依托,充分突顯出宋朝對(duì)佛教的重視,對(duì)佛教的信奉自古至今都存在,敬仰佛祖,教人慈愛(ài)善良,這是值得收藏的原因之一。另外,銅錢(qián)上的圖案,不僅是“淳化元寶”四個(gè)字,更是錢(qián)幣背面的佛像都雕刻的神態(tài)自如、線條流暢自然、清晰莊嚴(yán),栩栩如生,可以看出當(dāng)時(shí)年代的金屬雕刻工藝水平.
