郵票也是供寄遞郵件貼用的郵資憑證，一般由主權(quán)國(guó)家發(fā)行。郵票的方寸空間，常體現(xiàn)一個(gè)國(guó)家或地區(qū)的歷史、科技、經(jīng)濟(jì)、文化、風(fēng)土人情、自然風(fēng)貌等特色，這讓郵票除了郵政價(jià)值之外還有收藏價(jià)值。郵票也是某些國(guó)家或地區(qū)重要財(cái)源來(lái)源。收藏郵票的愛(ài)好叫集郵。

郵票的誕生，是由于郵資的征收對(duì)象的改變：不再是收信人，而是發(fā)件人付費(fèi)。這是一種“預(yù)付模式”（先付費(fèi)后使用）。而且郵資的費(fèi)用可以因此而降低，收費(fèi)也變得簡(jiǎn)單起來(lái)，通信因此走入尋常百姓家。

The rudiments of stamps first appeared in the middle of the 17th century. 1653, King Louie of France, granted Verlaye the right to open a post office in the Paris area. Villarreal set up a "small post office" in Paris, but also set up the streets of the post office box, every day to receive and deliver mail. Villarreal uses a label called a prepaid card to send letters to users. The sender puts the postage paid certificate on or affixed to the envelope, lists the date of posting, and places the letter in the mailbox. After the post office receives the letter, it tears up the postage paid certificate and delivers it to the recipient. This stamp, the postage-paid label, can be said to be the predecessor of stamps. The label was torn off at the drop of a hat and was not handed down.
