光緒二十六年(1900年)，委藩司張曾、鹽法道楊文鼎督辦局務，辦理接受機器廠房、物料等事宜。其鼓鑄費用均由該司、道設法籌款。鑄成后發商行用。閩省自接辦后改為“福建銀元局”。往后所鑄銀元，其幣上端均書“福建官局造”，與他省截然不同。閩省習用銀角，其主幣庫平一錢四分四厘鑄額不多，留存至今絕少。
