袁大頭是民國時期主要流通貨幣之一，"袁大頭"是對袁世凱像系列硬幣的口語俗稱，嚴謹點說叫"袁世凱像背嘉禾銀幣"。當時袁像銀幣的鑄造量非常大，鑄造地有天津、南京、廣東、武昌等很多地方，所以產生了極細微區別的不同版式。甘肅版系甘肅蘭州造幣廠沿用民國三年版舊模，在袁像左右加鑄“甘肅”兩字，其余與開口貝版相同，鑄量僅數萬枚，如今經歷戰亂、損壞、回收等導致存世量甚少。

此件藏品為甘肅版民國三年袁大頭，錢幣正面鐫大總統袁世凱五分側面像，肖像上端環鐫發行年號“中華民國三年”，左右兩側鐫“甘肅”兩字。錢背正中鐫幣值“壹圓”二字，托以嘉禾二本，左右交互，下系結帶。此幣色澤光鮮自然，紋飾深淺適度，邊緣線條粗細均勻，間距也疏密一致。人像、發絲、胡須、穗芒等細微之處清晰有度，生動自然。是具有極高收藏價值的精品銀元。
This collection is of yuan Datou in the third year of the Republic of China in Gansu version. On the front of the coin is engraved with a five point profile of Yuan Shikai, the president of the Republic of China. On the top of the portrait is engraved with the issue year "three years of the Republic of China", and on the left and right sides are engraved with the word "Gansu".
