貨布乃是王莽建立新朝所發行的一系列錢幣之一，王莽當政后，為了削弱漢朝舊族勢力，以及 對百姓的財富掠奪，他以“托古改制”為名進行了一系列的幣制改革，其中包括有大布、貨布、第布八百、契刀五百、金錯刀、大泉五十等等。刀幣和布幣都在改革中恢復，但從形態上與春秋戰國時的并不相同。由於幣制復雜混亂，導致民間交易很不順暢。并且每次改制的錢幣大小不斷縮小，價卻越來越高，實質上剝削了普通民眾的財富。幣制改革的失敗也是新朝迅速滅亡的原因之一。盡管王莽的改革是失敗的，但他所發行的一系列錢幣卻是古錢史上的精品。布幣系列多采用懸針篆的字體，制作十分精美。

公元9年，王莽篡漢，建立“新”朝，始建國二年（公元10年），進行第三次貨幣改革，鑄六泉、十布，十布包括小布一百、幺布二百、幼布三百、序布四百、差布五百、中布六百、壯布七百、第布八百、次布九百和大布黃千共10種。文字精美，懸針篆，面文自右上起逆時針旋讀，銅質精良，鑄造極其工整。現存世已不多，價格頗高，為古錢珍品。
