坐洋幣銀元的鑄造時間由1885年開始，始鑄于巴黎。因為銀元正面的希臘自由女神坐像，因而得“坐洋”之名。這款錢幣為清代末期時在市場上流通的外國銀元之一。
此款銀幣正面的圖案為手執束棒的自由女神坐像，坐像的兩側鑄法文文字是：REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE（法蘭西共和國）。女神座下方有小字法文BARRE和該幣發行的年份。文中展示此枚為1908年。銀幣背面的主圖案為一花環，周圈為說明文字，花環上方鑄法文為：FRANCAISE INDO-CHINE（法蘭西印度支那），銀幣花環中間的橫向文字為銀幣的面額標識。銀幣花環下方文字為：TITRE 0.900 POIDS 27 GR譯為‘含銀千分之九百，重量27克’。整塊銀幣背面文字的中文意譯為：法蘭西（所屬的）印度支那（銀幣）。
“坐洋幣”的圖案形象雖然與其后英國鑄造的“站洋”中持戟武士傲然挺立船頭的形象大相徑庭，但卻絲毫無法掩蓋殖民主義者大規模進行經濟侵略的野心。而后各種坐洋斷斷續續發行至1937年，而中國在1933年實行廢兩改元后，船洋法幣逐漸一統市場，外國銀圓在中國的流通愈發不暢了，恰好是這個時候坐洋幣也銷聲匿跡了。
目前收藏市場上的坐洋幣，數量不多。因為在其退出流通市場后，歷經戰亂。大部分都被回收熔鑄他用，只有很少一部分留存下來。文中展示的此枚坐洋幣，保存的十分完好，幣面平整，入手沉墜，分量十足，如此品相算得上同類藏品中的精品。而更為難得的是，這是一枚錯版錢幣。
所謂錯版幣，就是錢幣在鑄造時，可能由于鑄造模具的位置偏差，使得錢幣圖案的位置發生位移，這是一種非常小概率的事件。此枚錢幣的正反面圖案則是有了180度的錯位偏移，極為罕見。根據收藏慣例來說，錯版錢幣的價值要高出普通錢幣許多倍，結合這本來就是一枚品相保存的極好的精品錢幣，其收藏價值不言而喻。

Although the image of "sitting in foreign currency" is quite different from that of the later British "standing in the ocean" in which the halberd warriors stand proudly on the bow, it can not conceal the colonialists' ambition of large-scale economic invasion. Later, all kinds of foreign currency were issued on and off until 1937. However, after China implemented the abolition of two yuan reform in 1933, foreign currency gradually dominated the market and foreign silver COINS became more and more difficult to circulate in China, which happened to be the time when foreign currency disappeared.
