In the 16th year of the Republic of China, the northern expedition was successful. The national government established Nanjing as its capital. Nanjing Mint first took the original model and recast the commemorative coins of Sun Yat Sen's founding, then changed the English and lace (hexagon star) on the reverse of the coins to form a new version, which was issued in batches, commonly known as "small head". In the following four years, Sun Yat-sen's commemorative coins, together with yuan Datou, became the first circulating currency in the old China. Sun Yat Sen's commemorative silver coin, commonly known as "small head", was one of the most important currency in the period of the Republic of China. It is the first national currency to replace the head image of the president with the Royal Longtu, which means to declare the end of the Qing Dynasty, and China will enter a new era of republicanism. In addition, Chinese and English characters are engraved on the coin to inform foreigners that China's new open era is coming. In the field of collection, the gold and silver coin store, which has always been highly sensitive to major prehistoric events, will give the collection a common value, and its market will be booming.

The commemorative coin of the founding of the Republic of China was chosen as the temporary president of the Republic of China by the representatives of 17 restored provinces in Nanjing after the 1911 Revolution on December 29, 1911. A commemorative coin coined at the founding of the Republic of China. As the currency system has not yet been established, except for the conversion of Sichuan to Dahan silver coins and Fujian to Zhonghua Yuanbao, most of the major mints still use the steel mould of the former Qing Dynasty to cast silver coins for circulation. Due to the confusion of the currency system, Chen Jintao, the finance minister of the interim government, submitted a letter to Sun Yat-sen, the president of the Republic of China, on March 11, the first year of the Republic of China, advocating to cast 100000 yuan silver coins to commemorate the rectification. The design adopts the portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the great president, and later the general silver coin changes the pattern. Sun Yat-sen ordered the Ministry of finance to write, agreed to drum cast commemorative coins, and ordered the rest of the general silver coins to have new patterns, "in the middle, a model of five grains should be drawn, taking the meaning of the rich, the old and the people, and following the rules of urging the farmers to do business", ordered the Ministry of finance to quickly make new patterns, and ordered the mints of all provinces to drum cast according to the patterns. Soon after, the Ministry of Finance issued a new model to Jiangnan (Nanjing), Hubei, Guangdong and other mints, which was the origin of "the founding commemorative coins of Sun Yat Sen of the Republic of China".
