光緒元寶是收藏界品相極佳的一類銀幣藏品之一，發行量由各省鑄造量而定，有些存世量高，價值因而也就隨之降低，但是，在銀幣二十大珍品中，也不乏有出眾的種類，像福建官局的鑄造量極低，被譽為珍品中的珍品，價值連城。
話說光緒年間，閩省所需銀元均由廣東省供應，因路途遙遠，往返費時，閩督批準商人孫利用集股購機的方式，在閩地試鑄，并規定未經戶部指令，不準商人附搭股本或自行鑄造。后來，孫利特擬定閩籍浙江候補知縣孫葆辦理此事，再由善后局、鹽道司籌款續鑄。但時日一久，局庫支出困難而無款撥給，此事就此作罷。
因此事是由官督紳辦，在當時只是權宜之計，且也不符合政體。所以，在光緒二十四年（1898年）特委藩司張曾、鹽道司楊文鼎督辦局務，并接受機器廠房、物料等事宜，其鑄制費用均由該司、局自行設法籌款，鑄成后發商行用。閩省自接辦后改為“福建銀元局”。以后所鑄銀元，其幣上端均書“福建官局造”字樣，這就是此幣誕生的由來。

But for a long time, the Treasury had difficulty in expenditure and had no funds to allocate, so this matter was stopped. Therefore, the matter was handled by the officials and the gentry. At that time, it was only a temporary measure, and it was not in line with the regime. Therefore, in the twenty-fourth year of Guangxu (1898), the special commissioners Zhang Zeng and Yang Wending of Yandao supervised the administration and accepted such matters as machine factory buildings and materials. Their casting costs were raised by the Department and the Bureau themselves, and then released commercially. Fujian Province has been changed to "Fujian Yinyuan Bureau" since it took over. Later, the coins were coined with the words "made by Fujian government bureau", which is the origin of the coin.
