隨著佛教的盛行，佛像，佛珠等一眾佛教用具也逐漸走入尋常百姓的生活。其中金佛像更是受到了人們熱烈追捧，古人常曰佛靠金裝。在社會高速發展之下，人們在解決基本溫飽問題之后對藝術品收藏有了更高需求，于是金佛像在市場上一度供不應求。
尤其是明清時期，中國制造技藝到達鼎盛，清朝的銅鎏金金佛像因其質量上乘，形象逼真在國內拍賣市場大放異彩。
