蘇維埃版的袁大頭來源于民國20年。當時國民黨反動派對蘇區進行軍事圍剿和經濟封鎖，紅色政權對敵斗爭環境十分惡劣，為了適應對敵斗爭形勢的需要，紅軍便在從打土豪繳獲來的民國三年袁大頭舊銀元打上了“蘇維埃”的戳記，以示區別，用來發展革命根據地經濟，保障紅軍供給和紅色政權建設。這種“蘇維埃袁大頭”在發展革命根據地和紅色政權建設方面發揮了重要作用。后來國民黨還曾將不少蓋有“蘇維埃”的銀元回爐重鑄，因此蓋有“蘇維埃”戳的袁大頭并不多見，且具有非同一般的收藏價值。

此枚蘇維埃版民國三年袁大頭壹圓重26.7克，直徑3.96厘米，銀質純正，包漿老道。銀元正面鑄有袁世凱的側面像，頭發、胡子和肩上徽標凹凸感強烈，栩栩如生，右下角有“蘇維埃”簽字，上環鑄有 “中華民國三年”。背面中鑄“壹圓”二字正楷體，左右分別以嘉禾添飾，左右交互，下系結帶，立體感強。此銀元保存完好，品相精美，帶有濃厚的政治色彩，至今存世量極為罕見，彌足珍貴。袁大頭銀幣一直是中國近代幣制改革中的一個重要幣種，也是目前收藏領域中熱度大的一個銀元品種，被人們奉為“銀元之寶”。蘇維埃版袁大頭更為珍稀，比原版的袁大頭更具有收藏價值。
