第一套人民幣于1948年12與1日中國人民銀行在石家莊正式成立之日起發(fā)行，共有12種面額，62種版別。設(shè)計是晉察冀邊區(qū)印刷局的王益久和沈乃鏞同志 （除壹千元耕地狹版券外）。中國人民銀行行名及面值漢字由董必武同志書寫。 第一套人民幣是在新舊政權(quán)交替形勢下誕生，使得這套貨幣既具有戰(zhàn)時貨幣的某些特征，又具有明顯的過渡性貨幣的特征： 從幣制來看，這套人民幣仍沿用了舊幣制，這在中華人民共和國貨幣中是惟一的一套。 從印制年月來看，經(jīng)歷了三個時期。第一時期，從1948年12月1日起，至1949年10月20日止。這一時期發(fā)行的人民幣，在正面使用“中華民國XXX 年”的同時，在背面使用了公元紀(jì)年。它的紀(jì)念意義和收藏價值都是非常高的。
