梅瓶是傳統(tǒng)名瓷，梅瓶以口小只能插梅枝而得名。因瓶體修長，宋時(shí)稱為“經(jīng)瓶”，作盛酒用器，造型挺秀、俏麗，明朝以后被稱為梅瓶。梅瓶也稱“經(jīng)瓶”，最早出現(xiàn)于唐代，宋遼時(shí)期較為流行，并且出現(xiàn)了許多新品種。近代許之衡在《飲流齋說瓷》一書中詳細(xì)地描述了梅瓶的形制、特征及名稱由來：“梅瓶口細(xì)而頸短，肩極寬博，至脛稍狹，抵于足微豐，口徑之小僅與梅之瘦骨相稱，故名梅瓶。

梅瓶最早出現(xiàn)在唐代，宋遼時(shí)期較為流行，并且出現(xiàn)了許多新品。宋代的梅瓶，多為鴨蛋形，腹較豐，有的小口為洗口，器體一般高且偏瘦，肩部向下斜，足部長而接近于直線，底部比較小，器體的最小直徑在肩部之上至口下部，處理手法多樣，常有棱角分明的轉(zhuǎn)折，整個(gè)形體秀長優(yōu)美。元代的梅瓶造型已經(jīng)發(fā)展得相當(dāng)成熟，特別是景德鎮(zhèn)生產(chǎn)青花梅瓶為明、清梅瓶的造型延續(xù)奠定了基礎(chǔ)。
