清代機(jī)制銅圓的鑄造始于1900年（清朝光緒二十六年），止于1911年（宣統(tǒng)三年）。鑄造流通時(shí)間盡管只有十余年，但其鼎盛時(shí)期全國(guó)共有十九省二十局開機(jī)鑄造銅圓。十九省二十局先后鑄造的當(dāng)十銅圓，各不相同，版式繁多。僅以明顯區(qū)別劃分，其版式就有數(shù)百種之多。如以細(xì)微區(qū)別劃分，其版式在千種以上。
此枚“大清銅幣己酉當(dāng)制二十文”大清銅幣四字被珠圈所圍，珠圈以外左右為“己酉”，上方正中鐫滿文，錢幣下方為面值“當(dāng)制錢二十文”。錢幣背面上方為年份“宣統(tǒng)年造”，下為英譯，珠圈分隔，內(nèi)雕龍紋。該幣包漿牢固，顏色純正。圖案和字跡清晰，且銹色美觀自然、品相靚麗，給人以賞心悅目之感。
光緒銅元誕生在清末政治腐敗、經(jīng)濟(jì)衰竭的歷史階段，從光緒二十六年起（１９００年），經(jīng)歷了晚清、民國(guó)時(shí)期的短短３０多年，但其版別眾多、種類龐雜、存世量大，錯(cuò)配模具、錯(cuò)簽局名時(shí)有發(fā)生，造成“奇品”、“趣品”，豐富了收藏研究的情趣。
