米芾之癬石，簡(jiǎn)直到了如癡如癲，無以復(fù)加的謔稱。米芾的“癲”，是他的一大特點(diǎn)，這一特點(diǎn)表現(xiàn)在他的一切言行中。作為石癡，則表現(xiàn)在他愛石的一些與眾不同的行為上。他因?yàn)檎兆硇挠谄焚p奇石，以致于荒廢公務(wù)，好幾次遭到彈劾貶官司，但他仍然迷石如故，絲豪無悔改之意。一次，他任無為州監(jiān)軍，見衙署內(nèi)有一立石十分奇特，高興得大叫起來：“此足以當(dāng)吾拜”。于是命左右為他換了官衣官帽，手握笏板跪倒便拜，并尊稱此石為“石丈”。此事很快傳播開來，人們都覺得他的行為好笑。米元章性情中人也。天下知石中三味青幾稀矣。
