玉佩其實講起來種類很多，其中極具代表性的一類是牌形玉佩。 牌子行內人稱其為別子，為明清兩代流行的一種佩飾。形狀以長方形為主，也有圓形、橢圓形等。

陸子岡是江蘇太倉人，自幼在蘇州學藝，終成一代玉雕巨匠，尤其擅長平面減地之技法，這是行話，通俗地說就是淺浮雕。所制玉器作品多數形制仿漢，取法于宋，頗具古意，形成空、飄、細的藝術特色。所謂空，就是虛實相襯，疏密得當，使人不覺煩瑣而有靈空之感；飄，就是造作生動，線條流暢，使人不覺呆滯而有飄逸之感；細，就是琢磨工細，設計精巧，使人不覺粗獷而有巧奪天工之感。明代子岡牌多為長方形，且其長寬是很有講究的，應該是按黃金分割比例來制作的，大小適中，方圓得度，刀工精美，字體挺拔，地子平淺而光滑，在方寸之間不僅盡顯玉質之美，更具玉工之精。
