姚建萍，1967 年4月6日出生于蘇州鎮湖，著名蘇繡藝術家，研究員級高級工藝美術師，國家級非物質文化遺產項目（蘇繡）代表性傳承人，被譽為“蘇繡皇后”。 中國文聯第八屆全國委員會委員，全國“三八”紅旗手，全國十大藝術英才，全國“雙學雙比”女能手標兵，聯合國教科文組織授予“民間工藝美術大師”， 中國刺繡藝術大師，中國民間文藝家協會理事會理事，江蘇省人大代表，江蘇省民間文藝家協會副主席，江蘇省首批“五個一”高級人才，公派北京大學及德國斯圖加特學院研修學者，江蘇省“333工程”培養對象公派美國加州伯克利大學高曼公共政策學院進行研修。中國刺繡藝術史上第一個進入國家級藝術殿堂——上海美術館舉辦個人藝術展的刺繡藝術家。曾受到胡錦濤、溫家寶、朱镕基等黨和國家領導人親切接見。
姚建萍將油畫、攝影、雕塑、國畫、書法的線條、結構、色彩、光影變化融為一體，與傳統刺繡針法有機結合，注重作品的唯美主義傾向，強調光影色彩的自然過渡，大膽追求色彩的斑斕豐富，充分運用平針繡和亂針繡的各自特點，中西融合，古今融合，巧妙變化中靈活運用平亂轉換，以及吸收各大繡種流派的特點，集大成于一體。
